Destination Local – a new Leeds meet-up on December 3

As I mentioned the other week, the £2.5 million Destination Local project aims to support the next generation of hyperlocal media services in the UK.

Last week’s briefing in Leeds saw in the region of 75 people turn up to hear what organisers Nesta and  the Technology Strategy Board had to say about their initiative. I could only stay for the first hour so I’m not in a position to give you a blow by blow account. It was genuinely good to see four members of Johnston Press attending, but depressing to hear afterwards about some of the comments made at the meeting.

Some were saying it’d be good to get as many interested parties as possible together to discuss possible Leeds bids to Nesta and potential collaborations. It’s fallen on me to organise this meeting, so ….

I’ve booked it for next Tuesday (December 3) in the upstairs room at The Brewery Tap pub near Leeds Train Station, 6pm.

Be great if you can come along and join the discussion? It’s open to anyone with an interest in collaborating, who wants to hear more information about the competition, toss around some ideas, hear other ideas about potential collaborations and consortia and generally network etc etc …

Hope to see you there!
