Meeting to connect Leeds hyperlocals

Luke Beaumont at Holt Park Today is one of a number of hyperlocal bloggers in Leeds to use digital tools to inspire and motivate local communities.

I recently had the pleasure of doing some training with Luke with the Media Trust, and he suggested a regular meet up for bloggers. Running a hyperlocal by yourself can be challenging – and Luke wanted to share tips and best practices with others in Leeds.

He writes over on his blog:

“We currently seem to work in silos but I believe we can make our websites more sustainable (in terms of producing content) and more engaging to our readers if we connect and share content across our sites.”

He’s also got an idea of doing a ‘city wiki’ for Leeds.

Bloggers meet ups aren’t a new idea in Leeds – myself and Jon Eland tried WePublish a couple of years ago but it didn’t have the interest to sustain it. Northern Bloggers/Wordpress Leeds also meet monthly.

But Luke’s hoping to fare better and is holding a meetup at the Tetley on Tuesday, 17th June at 6.30pm. Find out more on Luke’s blog. I’m hoping to get along.
